Being a professor at the university is all he has time for nowadays.

Appearance:

Diethard has the look of a man meant for TV; just passing the mark of six feet tall, with broad shoulders, an ever-present knowing smile, and eyes that look as if they could twinkle on cue, given the right motivation. Which makes it all the more unusual that he so rarely appears on camera, by his own choosing.

The top of his head is covered by long, well-kempt blonde hair, grown out in the back past his shoulders and pulled into a tight ponytail, save for the bangs on the left side of his head, which have been allowed to reach down over his face. That bang covers up one of two blue eyes, as well as part of a sharp, narrow nose, with the tail almost reaching a slightly squarish chin. His skin is slightly tanned, and his body tone is one of a man in relatively good shape; not one of over-the-top muscle definition, but someone at least willing to spend the necessary time keeping his body toned.

Most often, expect to see him dressed in at least business-casual clothing; he has a certain love for high quality clothes, often arriving to class in high-necked shirts and suit jackets.

Personality:

Diethard is a man who will allow personal interest to dictate how he does business. As a former producer for a national news station, he is always keeping himself up to date on recent happenings, always monitoring events worldwide to see what is going on. During his tenure with this company, in his mind first and foremost was keeping himself involved with what's considered 'the next big thing', the next news story, the next happening to rock the world, the next person willing to shake the Earth. He will never cease to keep himself in touch with what might take this place of attention in his mind, because he will be there to gather every bit of information that he can... until he no longer maintains interest in this new subject. It's not that he has a short attention span, by any means; Diethard simply has no interest in something that's going to become old news. He simply wishes to remain entertained.

On a typical day, however, Diethard is a calm, collected individual, with all the charisma one might expect from someone who would lead a news station. He is capable of being sneaky and underhanded, of being manipulative, when the need arises; as a former news producer, he is very capable at altering the truth to suit his own needs, or the needs of those who may ask him to do so. Alternatively, he's also capable of keeping himself on the good side of a crowd; another talent he learned, with time and employment, involved the proper way to work a crowd into seeing his side of things.

Being capable, however, or being willing, are two different sides of the same coin, as time goes on. But that will be explained a bit more thoroughly in the history section.

History:

The child of upper-middle class parents, with a father who held a partnership in a local law firm, Diethard Reid would be raised in an environment that most would consider posh. The child would rarely want for anything that was not provided, and his parents would insist that he maintain his schooling amongst the private academies in the area throughout his childhood. While not managing top of the class-level grades, he would complete every year of his schooling without any issues relating to his grades. Save for the fact that his family was fairly well-to-do, he really had a very typical childhood.

It was in eighth grade that he started to form an interest in what would be his future career; at first, it was simply video. He had taken a video production class for one of his random elective credits, and he took to the camera very easily, often carting it around with him whenever possible to film events happening. He did well enough in the class that his parents decided to purchase the boy a video camera of his own, and a decent supply of VHS tapes to record with. The size of the thing made it difficult to carry around for everyday use, until such a time came that he turned 16, and was able to drive. The camera became a permanent fixture within his car, taking it with him whereever he went.

It was his father, however, that got the idea of working in the field of the news into Diethard's mind. While he had always watched the news with his parents, he had never been on the other side of the production until his father, who had represented a local news station in a recent lawsuit, had been offered the opportunity to come see the facilities of the news station as a way of saying thank you after the case had concluded. He decided to bring his son along for the tour, and Diethard was wide-eyed and curious through the entire thing. They ended up spending quite a bit of time in the production area, where the boy immediately began to take to the technology that they used to piece the stories together and edit them for the final broadcast.

After this, it was firmly settled into his brain; this was what he wanted to do. Taking the news and putting it together, presenting it to the public like he had seen at that news station. When he finished school, he would be entered straight into college by his father, enrolled within the ever-prestigious Harvard. He would major in journalism and graduate as expected after four years of schooling. As soon as he graduated, he would start offering forth his resume, only to be accepted by the local news station from his hometown.

He would take on a position as assistant producer upon being hired, working here for several years and working his way up to executive producer. His talents would end up noticed on the part of this local branch's national affiliate, who would put forth a job offer to have him come up and work at the national level as a producer. For some time, he took on this position happily, but as time passed, he found that things were not always what they seemed, when you find yourself at the national level. Things started out well, but eventually, he found that his superiors were asking him to change certain details in a story before it was aired to prevent certain information from becoming public. This led to further fabrications, leaving entire clips out of stories, which allowed it to be changed from its original view to one that suited... well, whoever was passing this order down.

Diethard was only willing to bend the truth so blatantly for some time; there was one important story that required the information be bent in such a way that it removed the meat of the story, and with the past that had been done, he was starting to realize the pattern; what was being removed was information about a very specific company. Suspicions were brought up to his higher-ups, who told him to pay it no mind, but it wasn't something that he could just leave alone. While he would continue to work for the time being, it would eat at him from the inside, knowing that his bosses were very likely taking bribes from this company. He would start pulling later and later hours, to the point that he was staying later than his superiors. He would start sneaking into their offices to dig through paperwork, until one particularly lucky day, in which a folder regarding the transactions between his boss and this company.

What he didn't know, however, is that there was a camera in that office, and the folder had been left there as bait. Diethard was quickly "offered the opportunity to resign" from his position, and behind the scenes, he was buried within the company, prevented from finding work with any major company outside of the competition as well due to a non-compete clause.

He was given a reasonable severance package to prevent the resignation from looking too unusual. No longer able to work within the field that he loved, he would then turn to seek the opportunity to provide other people the chance to enjoy the field that he loved, even if he himself no longer could. He would begin submitting his resume to schools and universities, eventually finding employment within the halls of Evergrove University.
